Yash Raj's 3-film offer for Sushant Singh Rajput

If the demand for an actor is a barometer for his success than young Sushant Singh Rajput is definitely the star of tomorrow. At least two of the largest production houses in Bollywood, UTV and Yash Raj Films, are currently considering Rajput for exclusive deals.

The young actor who made his mark on television before making the transition to cinema earlier this year with UTV's film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's The 3 Mistakes Of My Life was called by Aditya Chopra last month to discuss an exclusive 3-film contract with Yash Raj.

Says our source from Yash Raj, "Adi immediately offered him the parallel lead with Arjun Kapoor in Aurangzeb. Also, Aditya Chopra had seen Sushant Singh Rajput's dancing in Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa. He wanted to make a full-fledged dance film with Rajput. A third film would have been finalized later."

Unfortunately, UTV would not allow Rajput to sign any outside contacts.

A friend of the actor spilled the beans, "Aditya Chopra met Sushant and told him he had seen his work on television and had big screen plans for the young actor. Adi Chopra wanted to sign Sushant for a 3-film contract."

Since the young actor was already under contract with UTV, he asked for time to speak to UTV before getting back.

Says Rajput's friend, "Sushant would have to fulfill his 2-film deal with UTV before he can sign anything else with an outside banner. They've invested so much in the Chetan Bhagat adaptation Kai Po Che. They expect Sushant's career to take off in a big way. UTV naturally wants to cash in on his popularity once his debut film is released."

Says Sushant Rajput's friend, "Sushant has already lost one Yash Raj film Aurangzeb which was to start in the next couple of months. He has also lost Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt's Aashiqui 2 which has now gone to Aditya Roy Kapoor."

The latest development in the Rajput imbroglio is that UTV has agreed to put a time frame to the actor's exclusive contract. Says Sushant's friend, "UTV's second project with Sushant Rajput has to be launched before January 2013. If they fail to do so, Sushant is free to sign any film."

Would Aditya Chopra be willing to wait for Sushant Singh Rajput to complete the obligation with UTV?

Sushant Singh Rajput remained unavailable for comment.

Arjun Kapoor in Karan Johar's film

Raju Hirani's 3 Idiots, which is 'loosely adapted' from Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone is the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time.

Now, B-Town has woken up to another of this author's works. In a time when films based on best-selling novels are fast becoming a trend, market-savvy producer Sajid Nadiadwala who has in his long career, been responsible for many blockbusters including the recentHousefull-2; purchased the rights of Bhagat's 2 States at an exorbitant sum. From that point onwards, 2 States has been making headlines continuously. Every top actor's publicity machinery has leaked out fake stories on how it was their client who was being considered for the role of the Punjabi college lad. Now the speculation has come to an end.

Sajid has joined hands with Karan Johar for 2 States. And the hero is Arjun Kapoor. Debutant Abhishek Varman, who worked with K Jo on My Name is Khan and is also the creative director on Student of the Year, will direct 2 States.

Sajid, on vacation in Europe, called us to explain how his association with Karan is an emotional one. Said he, "I looked up to Karan's father Yash Johar when I started out. Yashji was my friend, philosopher and guide. Whenever I needed advice, I'd drive to his Mahalaxmi office. So you see, my association with Karan is not new. For some time now, there has been speculation about this association. There has also been tremendous curiosity over the casting. The suspense is over. Karan and I are co- producing 2 States and Arjun Kapoor is our hero.''

Reciprocating sentiments, Karan says, "Sajid is an exceptional producer. His pulse on mainstream cinema coupled with his tremendous track record has placed him in an enviable position. I'm honoured to collaborate with him on 2 States; a film that I believe is one of the most traditionally identifiable love stories that I have recently read.''

Both producers are also unanimous in their views on the hero of the film. Says Sajid, "I have known Arjun since the time he weighed 140 kgs. He's now a cool dude who's turned out to be a good actor and a heartthrob for millions. He is the perfect hero.''

Karan quips, "Arjun is wonderful and a supremely talented addition to the young bracket of actors in the movie industry. Both Sajid and I have implicit faith in his portrayal of our protagonist.''
Both producers are also on the same page as far as their choice of the film's director goes.

Said Sajid, "I bought the rights of 2 States because I loved the book. Abhishek (Varman) has done a fantastic job of the adaptation. The love story in this book is very beautiful.'' K Jo adds, "Abhishek Varman who is my creative director on SOTY is a true talent in every way.''

'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum' not for children

"Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum" is a complete no-no for children, says actor Tusshar Kapoor who will be seen in the adult comedy.

"Kids cannot see this film. Teenagers can see it," he said and added that though the film will have an A-certificate, it won't affect its box office performance.

Talking about the sexual innuendoes and jokes in the film, he said that the genre has become cool and trendy.

Apart from Tusshar, the film, directed by Sachin Yardi, also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Neha Sharma and Sarah Jane Dias and has been produced by his sister, Ekta Kapoor.

"When 'Kyaa Kool Hai Hum' became a super hit, I felt that it would have been bigger had the family audience would have seen it. Everyone saw it, the ladies went with their friends and the men went with theirs. But people didn't go with their families. But now society has really changed," he told IANS.

"We had a narration and we toned it down, but everyone said that it was good but not as good as the previous one. So then we brought back all the jokes and the naughty humour," he added.

"We are lucky that no film of this kind came in between. Housefulls have come, Golmaals have come, but they are a comedy of a different kind. This is an adult comedy," the actor says.

Why the gap?

"There were a lot of problems, Sangeeth wanted to do other kinds of films. He said he was not only a comedy director so he wanted to make some actioners and thrillers. When he was ready, Ekta was not ok with the script.

"Finally, Sachin came up with a script for a film called Road Trip To Anjuna. But we liked it so much, Ekta decided to convert it into Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum and make it a two hero film," he said.

Dil Garden Garden hits the bull's eye

The retro-kool track from Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum is the latest B-town anthem to rule the airwaves!

In less than a day of its online launch, the now chartbusting 'Dil Garden Garden' track from Balaji's forthcoming sex-com 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum', was trending nationwide on Twitter, and for a few hours, even worldwide.

The deliciously colorful video inspired by the Austin Power series, choreographed by Bosco-Caesar, lauded for its color and gusto, grabbed more than 3 Lac hits on Youtube in just two days.

According to the report dated 15th June by leading film-tracking company, Foresight, since the launch of 'Dil Garden Garden', the Spontaneous Recall of the film jumped dramatically by 78.9% over the previous week's statistics while the people who definitely plan to watch the film jumped 32.1% from the earlier week. There was a jump of 58.8% in the people who definitely plan to watch the film in its opening weekend.

Director-Producer Karan Johar's tweet, "Crazy...whacky and superkool song from Kyaa superkool hain hum!!!! KSKHH.... watch it!!! It's loads of fun!!!!" was echoed by a wide cross-section of the industry and countrywide fans. Its lyricist Mayur Puri attributed the success of the track to its composers Sachin and Jigar who stumbled upon the popular phrase in a Ludhiana dhaba when they heard a man praising the lassi by saying, "Dil Garden Garden Ho Gaya".

The funky Vishal (of Vishal-Shekhar), who has sung the uber-kool track, has been inundated with messages from fans, DJs and show organizers ever since the launch. "People seem to have gone nuts about it, and some, because of it," he laughs. "Always good to be a part of a big hit!"

Music magnate Bhushan Kumar said, "We are thrilled to have received such a fabulous response to the song. It has been picking up at phenomenal speed and we look forward to releasing the rest of the album at the soonest."

The success of the track was best summed up by Anupam Kher in his tweet: "Jai Ho!"

Hot 'Jism 2' songs to hit web world

Going by quite 'hatke' (read different) route, Pooja Bhatt will be releasing few songs of her upcoming sensational film 'Jism 2' on internet instead of television

Owing to strict restrictions from the Censor Board, the filmmaker has decided to showcase three highly sexual songs of 'Jism 2' on net, since they won't be suitable for television/family viewers and besides, she is not willing to comprise on the adult content in the songs.

According to Pooja, 'Jism 2' totally has six songs, out of which three contains 'adults only' sequences, while others cater to general family audience and whose promos will be played on small screens.

Stated the helmer in her micro-blogging site -"The other three cannot be made to seem asexual! Hence, we will only submit to the censor board and plug on TV those songs of Jism 2 what we feel is appropriate for a family audience."

Starring Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone, Arunoday Singh and Randeep Hooda, 'Jism 2' hit the headlines when its first poster released - in which nude Leone was seen covered by thin sheet. The film said to depict a very steamy storyline and sizzling love scenes.

Bhatt also tweeted that -"This is the first time a mainstream film has chosen the internet and social media as a more than worthy competitor to television."

Adding further Bhatt wrote, "I refuse to join the schizophrenic creed of filmmakers who peddle smut yet crave 'respectability'. You can't have your cake and eat it too! And if I do not get a 11 p.m. slot on TV for Jism 2, I would rather go the DTH way. Amputation of one's inherent vision is for the weak."

Madhuri Dixit was Shahid's first crush

In an age where 'Gang' wars, 'Dirty' deeds and 'Rowdy' romeos are striking gold at the box office, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra have arrived with a cutesy love story that spans eras. Madhureeta Mukherjee chats with the twosome...

Timeless love...
Priyanka: "I'm a hopeless romantic at heart. I'm very old-school, and believe in timeless romance and love that lasts forever."
Shahid: "I don't know whether I believe in timeless love, frankly, saat janmon ka saath is a very scary thought. But it's important to be open to all kinds of love. It just... happens! I can't be closed to anything. I like to be experimental."

Rumours and roadblocks...
Priyanka: "Link-ups are a professional hazard and they won't go away. But what's great is that Shahid and I share such a great camaraderie, and we're so comfy with each other that it doesn't matter."
Shahid: "Why just link-up rumours? Any rumour is disturbing. Even the one where I was supposedly rejecting films with Sonakshi was absolutely ridiculous."

Muscled men and action...
Priyanka: "Oh! I love action. I can't get enough of it... I even have a soft spot for tough men."
Shahid: "An 80s-styled-action film is definitely on my agenda. And when I sign something like that, I'm calling PC for help. The amount of harness-entries she's done in shows, I don't think an action hero must have done in a lifetime!"

Failures and flops...
Priyanka: "I get sulky, grumpy and upset when my films don't work. I even lock myself in a room and bawl."
Shahid: "I find things to hit and throw around when my films don't work."

Woman-power in Bollywood...
Priyanka: "I'm a Vidya Balan fan; I think she's got the courage to push herself and do the roles she's doing. Actresses have started getting their due creatively; it's a great time to be a Hindi film heroine. When I did Aitraaz, people told me I'd become a vamp, and that I shouldn't do it because heroine-centric films se opening nahi lagti hai."
Shahid: "Chalo, hum sab bhi heroine ban jaate hain, dupatta oodh ke. Ha, ha!"

First crush ki kahaani...
Priyanka: "Well, you know, girls keep having crushes. It wasn't a particular person, but my crushes sort of kept changing."
Shahid: "I think every boy of my generation had a huge crush on Madhuri Dixit. And so did I."

Jannat 2 not allowed to be shown on TV before 11 pm

After The Dirty Picture, Jannat 2 becomes the second film to be banned by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for screening during prime-time slot on TV. Despite opting for cuts and getting a U/A certificate for its TV premiere, the CBFC issued a diktat to the makers of Jannat 2 that they could screen their film only post 11 pm.

This decision has irked the Bhatts to no end and producer Mukesh Bhatt has said that he wouldn't accept this condition laid down by the Censor Board. The Bhatts feel that if they agreed to the various cuts asked by the CBFC, then why not allow the film to be screened at prime-time? However, the CBFC feels that a film like Jannat 2 despite its various cuts is still not suitable to be watched by young viewers.

The Dirty Picture is yet to be premiered on TV and if the makers of Jannat 2 don't agree to the CBFC's demands, their film may have to face the same fate. If that happens, satellite rights which serve as a big revenue source for filmmakers will be affected in a bad way.

RGV: Eega alone will collect Rs. 100 cr

It is not uncommon to see RGV praise unequalled films like Inception. However, he is not given to praise films made by Indians, especially those made by 'lesser mortals' of Tollywood. Eega is an exception. If it has made the likes of Anurag Kashyap take to Twitter, can RGV be silent? For the first time ever, RGV has come up with a prophecy regarding a film. Such is the excitement around this yet-to-be-released Rajamouli magnum opus.

"I think 'Eega' will be the first film to join the 100 crore club in Telugu industry. In other words I mean it will collect 100 cr in Telugu alone," RGV tweeted. The film with the highest amount of collections till date is way below the covetous Rs. 100 cr. mark. Sans starry presence, it may be difficult to imagine an earth-shaking BO run in Telugu. It may definitely become one of the biggest hits ever, but that will depend on a whole range of factors - from dialogues that have a ring with the mass audience to constant surprises scene after scene.

Starring Sudeep, Samantha and Nani, Eega is going to release on July 6 in three other languages besides Telugu - Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.

Parody on Gabbar Singh, Sudigaadu-style

Naaku kukka undi, daniki bokka undi, is a dialogue from Allari Naresh's forthcoming movie, Sudigaadu. The dialogue is a parody version of Pawan Kalyan's famous line, Naakkonchem tikka undi, kani daniki oka lekkundi, from Gabbar Singh.

This is only one of several parodies in Sudigaadu. This Bheemineni Srinivas-directed film, which is an adaptation of Tamil Padam, has spoofs on elements from as many as 108 movies! All the films are from Tollywood's recent history, films which released from 2000 onwards.

The makers say that Sudigaadu is 70 per cent original film. The original is more artistic, in that it draws upon art house cinema also. Unlike Tamil Padam, this film has many funny spoofs from blockbusters and noted films. In the latter category, films like Ye Maya Chesavae may be included. Looks like Naresh is going to raise the roof with his comedy.

Samantha drops out of Shankar's 'I' too

Actress Samantha has walked out of Shankar's latest project 'I' taking everyone by surprise. Only a fortnight ago, she had dropped out of ace Director Mani Ratnam's 'Kadal' citing date issues.

Samantha, who recently boasted that she was No.1 with eight releases lined up this year alone, has become enigmatic. She has not given any reason for her decision to withdraw from 'I'. No other sources are able to give any plausible reason for her quitting two projects in a row despite the fact that 'Kadal' is helmed by one of the best directors and 'I' is directed by a person who exemplifies modern cinema.
Samanatha was to play opposite Vikram in 'I'. The film, being produced by Ascar V. Ravichandran, will have music by A.R. Rahman. P.C. Sreeram is to handle the camera.

Samantha has now quit the project and returned the advance payment she had received from the makers.

The same team is coming together again for 'I' which will be a romantic thriller.

What the Tamil alphabet 'I' connotes? It has several meanings. Some of them are beauty, king, guru, music, surprise, head of a family or workplace, vulnerability, fear, arrow and victory. Shankar will explore all these facets in the film.

The film will have A.R. Rahman as the music director. A song set to music by Rahman has already been recorded. Vijay Prakash has sung the number.

Shankar's hallmark is quality. He has enlisted ace cinematographer P.C. Sriram who will handle the camera.

Effervescent Samantha will play opposite Vikram. Malayalam actor Suresh will act as Vikram's friend and companion. After a gap of several years, Ramkumar Ganesan (Prabhu's brother) will be seen again in 'I'. He will play a key role. Santhanam also is part of this multi-starrer.

Mary Vogt who was the costume designer for Hollywood film 'Men in Black' will work for Shankar. Rising Sun Pictures of Australia, who worked on Harry Potter series will take charge of scenes with special effects. 'Anal' Arasu and Peter Ming of China will be stunt directors. Many other Hollywod technicians also will be associated with the project.

It should be noted that Shankar's film titles would end with ' an', like, for instance, Kadalan, Mudalvan, Indian, Genleman, Enthiran and Nanban, But he has departed from this norm for 'I'.

Director Gautham Vasudev Menon will be making a film with actor Suriya for a third time after an interregnum of four years. Their two earlier films were 'Kakha Kakha' and 'Vaaranam Aayiram', both were superhits.

The third project on the cards is titled 'Thuppariyum Anandhan', a detective story. It is a period flick.

Gautham in a release said, "I am really excited Suriya has come on board to do Thuppariyum Anandhan with me. An action adventure, it is a period flick with a contemporary twist. All cliches associated with making a period film will be broken with this effort."

Gautham is currently busy working on 'Neethane En Ponvasantham'. Lined up next is Ilayathalapathy Vijay-starrer 'Yohan: Adhyayam Ondru'. Work on 'Thuppariyum Anandhan' will begin early next year after Gautham completes Yohan. He plans to make the film as a franchise.

It is said Kamal Haasan, who played a cop in 'Vettaiyadu Vilayaadu' and Ajith had been approached by Gautham to play the role of Anandhan, but both had not evinced interest in it.
